MORSE SPEEDS
Total Morse speed is dependant upon the CHARACTER SPEED, INTER-
CHARACTER DELAY and INTER-WORD DELAY, to the PARIS test formula. The
variation of any one component will affect the resulting WPM (words per
minute) rate. Morse is composed of Dits, Dahs and time delay to the ratio
of:
DIT = 1 UNIT
INTER DIT/DAH SPACE = 1 DIT
DAH = 3 * DIT
INTER-CHARACTER DELAY = 3 * DIT
INTER-WORD DELAY = 7 * DIT
Within the program the Inter-Character delay is multiplied by 3,
while the Inter-Word delay is Multiplied by 7. For realistic morse
sounding when the SYMBOL SPEED is greater than total morse speed, the
ratio of (3 * INTER-CHARACTER DELAY) / (7 * INTER-WORD DELAY) should be
in the range of 0.4 to 0.7.
